On arrival from the UK I went to the Harbourmaster’s Office in Split and told them my plan. Split is getting very popular, and can be a bit crowded depending on a time of the year you visit.
Split has excellent restaurants , its residents have a fun spirit and unique approach to life, the women here are of impressive beauty. Vis, famed for its crystal clear sea and protected underwater world (including underwater in situ museum), is the furthermost island in the central Dalmatia. Rogac, Solta;Rogac is the main port of the island of Solta which is connected to Split via fast boat and ferry.
Check your yacht information in order to find out which marina you should go to. Your yacht will be available for you and your crew at around 4pm on the departure day. The Diocletian Palace is well preserved Roman palace located now in the very heart of sailing Split and is major tourist attraction. I would like to let you know, that my childhood friend Katalin and myself had a most wonderful vacation on our sailing trip.
Individual boat design varies slightly from craft to craft, but all sailing boats offer a range of cabin types (some top deck, some on main deck and some below), comfortably accommodating 2 persons or at a real squeeze, 3. Private en suite bathroom or shared facilities. There is also time to explore the town before lunch on board and return to Split for a free afternoon and evening to explore the city your way. The islands covered in pine trees are known to local fisherman for ‘paklina’ (melted pine resin) used for ‘water proofing’ boat decking the islands also offer crystal clear waters and secluded beaches.
They are top quality, modern and high performance sailing yachts with every detail of construction and design brought to perfection. If you’re travelling to Split from London on a clear day, sit on the right hand side of the plane (left is not quite so good) and see the outline of the islands descending into the bottom of the sea. In Dalmatia, you can easily visit 4 or 5 islands on a weeks’s charter.
During the journey we had great support from Adriatic sail Charter team , Ilijana and Josko! July and August are the most popular months for obvious reasons but that comes with higher marina prices, more traffic and the need to find your overnight berth earlier in the day to be sure of a space. As a general guide you should regard Split to Dubrovnik as a minimum of a one week trip and allow two weeks if you need to start and finish in the same marina.
The main islands in this section are generally bigger than in the area immediately further north, and this can therefore lead to longer sailing days as you navigate around them. Our flotilla base is from Murter island, which is in the middle of an ideal flotilla and holiday sailing area.
